Yasser Darwish founded the Egyptian Celebration Company in NYC to share the culture of Egypt. I had always associated the ‘whirling dervish’ dance with Turkey but clearly I was wrong. Still photos don’t do this performance justice; you have to see it live. The piece you see above his head started as a multi-layered ‘skirt’ and then he maniuplated it around and over his head.<\/p>\n
