We eat a lot of popcorn. And when I say ‘a lot’ I mean we consume our body weight twice a month. But we don’t go for that fancy schmancy Orville Newman double movie-time butter with extra sea salt, I mean the $0.99 for 2lbs store brand genetically mutated ‘corn based food’.<\/p>\n
We, my partner and I, have very different methods for popping the ‘corn based food’.<\/p>\n
The air popper that we have been using since… well… there was a ‘we’, has a measuring scoop built into the top. I carefully pour into the scoop the prescribed amount of kernels and then dump the contents of the scoop into the popper. This results in a full-but-not-too-full bowl of white fluffy magic. A very left brain method.<\/p>\n
She, on the other hand, removes the scoop and proceeds to pour the corn directly into the popper. Egads!! How arbitrary! Sometimes she gets a partially full bowl and others it flows over onto the counter, into the sink, and onto the floor. It rather reminds me of a scene from ‘Real Genius<\/a><\/em>‘. Pretty much the definition of a right brain dominant approach.<\/p>\n However we manage to pop our respective bowls we agree on the topping… ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray<\/a>‘. It goes on evenly penetrating into every nook and crany of those kernels of joy. She takes exactly 7 sprays, no more, no less. I, however, paint the top of the bowl yellow, flip it like a master pizza thrower, hose it down, flip, and repeat a third time. This insures complete coverage of each and every popped kernel.<\/p>\n I guess this is why we are perfect for each other; her measuring of the corn in arbitrary, but the spray is precise.
