NYE with Dick Clark

Ok, so I know that Dick is a fixture on Times Square for NYE but come on now.

Watching Dick Clark ‘call the ball’ was quite surreal. I thought I had had WAY TOO MUCH to drink when I heard him. When one of the designated drivers made a comment about his speech I knew it wasn’t me and that Dick was well past the end of his career. You gotta wonder who in their right mind thought that putting him through that was a good idea.

Yes, I know I’m about 13 days behind the news wave on this one but I’m still recovering from my CES (Vegas, bhaybee, VEGAS!) jetlag.

Also, I’ve openned up the comments; posting is no longer limited to logged in users. I’ll keep it this way until the spam becomes a problem.

CES posts are on the way…

I’m still trying to digest all the info I gathered at CES. I have a ton of pics to post including some fab-damn-tabulous shots of George Thorogood. Yes, that George Thorogood.

Gibson had a huge tent in the parking lot with a stage. George played Thursday and Friday nights (I went to both) for about 2hrs each night. There were only about 100 people in the crowd so I was able to get very close to the stage.

I’ll post the pics as soon as I figure out how to make WordPress create thumbnails.

Did I mention that they also had an open bar?

I haven’t seen one of these in >10 years…

san·i·tize
Audio pronunciation of ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sn-tz)
tr.v. san·i·tized, san·i·tiz·ing, san·i·tiz·es

  1. To make sanitary, as by cleaning or disinfecting.
  2. To make more acceptable by removing unpleasant or offensive features from: sanitized the language in adapting the novel for television.

I’ll avoid the obvious connection between TV and a hotel toilet.

So just how near does it have to be to be a ‘near miss’?

So I’m wedged into a window seat on my final leg into Vegas (baby, VEGAS!) this afternoon staring at the gloriously desolate landscape below me when WOOOSH!!! Heading in the opposite direction and at our flight level was what appeared to be a Southwest ‘just drop your butt anywhere’ Airlines cattle car. Now it wasn’t quite close enough to get a tail number (nor at crusing speed did I have the time) but I could clearly make out the paint scheme and the aircraft type. I have to admit, I was a bit spooked.
However, watching the contrail form behind the other aircraft and then dispurse was rather cool.

Where’s Freud when you need him?

I rarely remember my dreams. This makes the times that I do remember  more interesting. Last night I dreamt that I was at a party surrounded by people from my past. Everyone was someone I knew from high school, including my friends and even two priests. What was interesting was who was not there; my family or anyone that is important in my life now. No, there were no cigars. 😉

Off to CES tomorrow

I’m off to Vegas (baby, Vegas!) tomorrow for the 17 ring circus that is CES.  I’ll be posting interesting tidbits, toys, potential vendors, etc I find.  I will be checking email and have my mobile along although with 130k other geeks attendees I’m sure that finding a free cell channel will be a bit of a challenge.

And for those of you wondering… No, I don’t gamble.
